Professor Peter Gaines - Guest speaker
Prof Gaines took IR and Vascular Surgery out of their conventional directorates to develop Sheffield Vascular Institute - the first truly integrated egalitarian approach to the delivery of vascular care in the UK.
Through this time over 150 peer reviewed publications have emerged, and his text book Vascular and Endovascular Surgery is in its 4th edition.
Specific areas of clinical interest and research currently include Vascular Malformations, and Carotid disease.
Prof Gaines established TEAM (The Embolisation and Ablation Meeting). This was developed in 2008 and has been an unexpected expanding success. He has lectured widely on embolisation.
Professor Gaines was President of the British Society of Interventional Radiology 2007-9. In 2006 he was offered a chair at Hallam University, Sheffield. Away from the NHS he works with new medical innovations, aspires to family membership, drinks, plays golf badly, and fishes with hope.
